Hera
Gallery
Presents
Another Kind of Music, Another
Kind of Dance
An Evening of Video Art from Central Europe
Thursday, April 3rd, 7.30 pm
Hera
Gallery is pleased to present "Another Kind of
Music, Another Kind of Dance," an evening of
central European video art hosted by Viera Levitt.
Ms. Levitt is a former museum director and curator
from the Slovak Republic, now living in Wakefield.
She will give a talk in conjunction with the screenings.
Ms. Levitt has selected pieces that deal with music
and dance, but not in the way we might expect. There
will be lyrical and haunting pieces of aged ballet
dancers, of machines that dance to meditative music,
of singing deaf children as well as the obsessive
"dance" of a young prisoner. This talk and
presentation is a continuation of Ms. Levitt's recent
curatorial work at the galleries of the University
of Rhode Island (www.vieralevitt.org/uri.htm).
Artists include Milena Dopitova (1963, Czech Republic),
Artur Zmijewski (1966, Poland), Pavel Mrkus (1970,
Czech Republic) and ) and Pavlina Fichta Cierna (b.
1967, Slovak Republic).
These programs are presented with partial support
from The Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, Hera
Educational Foundation, and The Friends of Hera. Special
Thanks: Judith Tolnick Champa, Director of the Fine
Arts Center Galleries, University of Rhode Island.
Hera Gallery is free and open to the public and is
accessible to persons with disabilities. Parking is
available.
